Lobbying

And now, another Fact of Congress
Members of Congress have to keep themselves informed about a wide variety of issues.
They do this in several ways. One of the most important, of course, is to listen to what their constituents have to say.
Another is to listen to what Lobbyists have to say.
Lobbyists are people who represent a group that might focus on just one particular issue and then provide information to Congress about that issue.
You may have heard of the Chamber of Commerce, the Sierra Club, or the AARP for senior citizens.
Quite often Congress people learn things they never knew about a particular issue from lobbyists, because they don’t have the time or the resources to research an issue in depth like the lobbyists do.
Lobbying is big business. There are more than 35 THOUSAND lobbyists in Washington DC now.
