Civility

And now, another Fact of Congress
When you were in kindergarten, did you ‘play well with others’?
How would you grade Congress?
Congress deals with many difficult issues, so we should expect some disagreements, but sometimes lawmakers get a little…out of hand.
Incivility and rudeness make it impossible to get anything done, and when nothing gets done, the government shuts down.
The result: bad laws that affect us all.
Civility doesn’t mean that lawmakers have to agree with each other, just that they should respect each other.
Only when lawmakers respect each other will lawmakers find common ground.
Some standards have changed over the years. During the 18th Century, it was rude to clean your teeth with the table cloth! Ok, maybe that’s still rude.
One thing that hasn’t changed is that when you’re civil to someone else, good things happen
So it’s up to you to tell your representative…
And that’s another fact of Congress
